Types of Car registration in Maharashtra:

Every state law requires the vehicle owners to register their vehicle with concerned RTOs. No exception for Maharashtra. Maharashtra RTO is responsible for registering every vehicle plying on the roads of the state. There are two types of vehicle registration process:

  • Temporary Registration: It is offered for a limited time at the time of buying a vehicle. This registration is required if a vehicle is purchased from a dealer’s showroom. This registration is valid for only 7 days. However, the owner can extend it further. The vehicle owner can make an application for temporary registration to the concerned RTO and avail the RC.
  • Permanent Registration: As per the rules of Vehicle Act of India, a two-wheeler or four-wheeler must be registered within 7 days after its delivery. A person can’t drive an unregistered vehicle. As per the rule, a dealer can’t deliver an unregistered vehicle, it provides a temporary RC to the owner for a period of 7 days. It implies the owner to apply for a permanent registration with the concerned RTO of his/her location. The owner needs to fill an application form with relevant documents.

How to Transfer Ownership of Vehicle from One State to Another?

If the vehicle has been brought to Maharashtra from another state or registration of a new mark is needed, then the application for the same can be made via Form 20 and Form 26. Other documents that need to submit in addition to the ones mentioned earlier are:

  1. If the owner wants to change the address, he or she has to fill out Form 33.
  2. If the owner of the vehicle wants to transfer the ownership, Form 29 and Form 30 have to be filled with the required details.
  3. Form AT and FT.
  4. Form 28 which includes the No Objection Certificate from the financier. It should also include the imprint of the chassis fixed on the form by the registering authority.
  5. If the vehicle is intended for commercial purposes, Form TCA and Form TCR are also required.
  6. If the vehicle has been transferred from another state to Maharashtra within 30 months of its first registration, a proof of the entry tax payment is to be provided by the owner.
  7. The owner of the vehicle has to also provide an affidavit which states that the vehicle is free from any past accidental experiences, crime or theft.
  8. The owner of the vehicle has to also produce all the documents related to the vehicle as well.
Certificate of No Objection:

The documents to be submitted for the owner to receive the No Objection Certificate are:

  1. Form 28.
  2. Form 29, in case the owner is selling the vehicle.
  3. A document stating the consent of the financier.
  4. Certificate of No Objection from the local police department.
  5. Other documents such as:
    • Certificate of Registration
    • Certificate of Insurance
    • Tax Certificate
    • Graduation Certificate

How to Get a Duplicate Registration Certificate?

If in case you lost your Registration Certificate or if your Registration Certificate has been damaged, you can opt for a duplicate Registration certificate. The request should be redirected to RTO Maharashtra and there are some documents required for the procedure.

The documents required for getting duplicate registration certificate of a vehicle includes
  • FIR for the lost registration certificate
  • Old registration certificate if it is damaged.

After having these documents, you will be asked to submit a form along with the fee for the duplicate registration certificate. Submit the same to RTO Maharashtra and you will receive the registration certificate from the RTO Maharashtra as per the standard lead times.

How to Pay Maharashtra e-challan on the State Traffic Website

  • Visit the official website of Maharashtra traffic police-challan.
  • You can either input your vehicle number or your challan number to proceed.
  • Note that when entering the vehicle number, the last four digits of the engine chassis number are required as well.
  • Once you submit the necessary details, you will be redirected to a new page that displays the information of your Maharashtra traffic e-challan.
  • Pay the traffic challan via the available payment method on the page.
  • On successful payment, you shall receive a confirmation message.

How to Pay Maharashtra e-challan Through Parivahan

  • Visit the official Parivahan website (E-challan Parivahan)
  • Scroll down and click on the ‘Get Challan Details’ option present under the ‘Submit’ button.
  • Enter the challan number, vehicle number, or driving license number.
  • Enter the captcha code and choose ‘Get Details’.
  • From the list of e-challans visible on the page, click on the pending e-challans issued by the Maharashtra police.
  • On successful e-challan Maharashtra RTO online payment, you shall receive a confirmation receipt.

How to Pay Maharashtra e-challan Through Paytm

  • Open the Paytm App on your phone.
  • Go to the ‘Recharge and Pay Bills’ section and click on ‘e-challan’.
  • Enter your challan number or vehicle number.
  • Your pending challan details will appear on the screen.
  • Choose your payment method and make the payment.
  • Once your payment is done, you will receive a message confirming that the e-challan has been paid.
